Tifton's license runs on a January 1 deadline, but the penalties don't start until April 1. Inspections come before you pick up your certificate at City Hall.

January due, April penalties

Tifton is a Tift County city in south Georgia. All businesses inside Tifton must get a city business license before opening. The fee depends on business type, classification and annual gross income, and new businesses estimate their first year. Professionals may pay a flat $400 each or choose the gross receipts method.

The city's process is simple: verify zoning and location, submit an application at City Hall (130 E. 1st Street), schedule the required inspections, then pay for and pick up the certificate. Fire, zoning, building code and sanitation inspections may be required. Businesses opening on or after July 1 get a prorated tax, but flat-fee professionals don't.

Tax is due January 1, and renewal notices are mailed in December. Renewing on or after April 1 brings penalties and interest. For online renewals, you email the form and gross receipts, and the city sends an invoice within five business days.
