Woodstock websites for Cherokee County home-service pros
Woodstock may waive a new small business's first-year occupational tax, admin fee and inspection fee. Home businesses don't qualify, but commercial startups with under 10 employees might.
A first-year fee waiver
Commercial and home-based businesses inside Woodstock city limits must register for an occupational tax license. The city reviews each one to make sure the business is legal and the location is safe, which takes about 30 days. It recommends a zoning clearance first.
Under the new small business waiver, a business may get its first calendar year's occupational tax, admin fee and safety inspection fee waived. It needs a commercial lease or co-working space, incorporation with the Secretary of State within the last 365 days, and fewer than 10 employees. Home occupations, professionals, regulated industries and purchased businesses don't qualify.
Renewals are due no later than January 1. Standard licenses use your gross receipts, your NAICS business class and a multiplier, plus a $30 administrative fee. Professionals pay $300 per practitioner per location. The licensing office notarizes the two required affidavits for free in person.
The city also asks for the correct square footage of your business location so it can check restrooms and ADA compliance, plus a signed lease if you rent. If you sell food, you'll need a Cherokee County health inspection report. Sole proprietors using a name other than their own get a Trade Name Certificate from Cherokee County Deeds and Records.
