Lexington County, South Carolina

Lexington websites for Lexington County service pros

Lexington reviews a new business location in about a week, then calls you to pay for and pick up the license.

About a week to approve

The Town of Lexington is in Lexington County and licenses only businesses inside town limits. A location next to the town line may be annexed, which goes to the Planning Commission and two Town Council meetings. In an existing commercial building, you submit an Application for Review of Business Location, the business license application, and often a wastewater treatment form.

Send the forms to [email protected], fax 803-358-1552, mail them, or bring them to Town Hall, 111 Maiden Lane. Staff check zoning, landscaping and appearance standards, usually within a business week, then call to say the license is ready to pay for and pick up, or why it can't be issued.

Fees follow a NAICS class rating, and nearly every new business also pays a zoning fee; some owe building permit, capital contribution or impact fees. Home businesses and booth renters file a home occupation or location review with the application. Some trades, including lawn care, janitorial, pest control, painting and pressure washing, may need vehicle decals.

Out-of-town contractors doing permitted work may license per job. Renewal applications arrive in late January or early February and are due April 30; unpaid fees add 5% a month.
