Call first, then zoning
Cayce is mostly in Lexington County, with land to the east in Richland County. Anyone owning or running a business in the city pays an annual license tax for the privilege, and so do businesses and professionals based outside Cayce who work inside its limits. The city encourages a call to the Business License Office first: 803-205-4448, [email protected].
A new business or ownership change starts with a Zoning Permit Application. Once zoning compliance is verified, the Fire Marshal and Building Official do a fire and safety inspection, and after approval the license can be issued.
Cayce sorts businesses by NAICS code, and Appendix B of its ordinance pairs each code with a rate class. On the state's 2026-2027 table, the cheapest class owed a $20 base on its first $2,000 and $1.20 on every added thousand up to $5 million. The city also offers home occupation, temporary use, peddler and yard sale permits.
Pay license fees and hospitality and accommodations taxes online, by mail to PO Box 2004, or in person at City Hall, 1800 12th Street, by card, cash, check, cashier's check or money order. Last year's renewals had an April 30, 2026 deadline, and a 5% charge applied from May 1.
