North Augusta doubles the business license tax for businesses located outside the city.
Double outside the city
North Augusta is in Aiken County, and anyone doing business or keeping an office in city limits pays a business license tax and holds a license. The state's Local Business License Renewal Center lists the city's official rates and contacts. The licensing contact is at 100 Georgia Avenue, (803) 441-4215, with mail to PO Box 6400.
The tax uses your NAICS rate class and gross revenue. For 2026-2027, Class 1 started at $20 for the first $2,000 plus $1.00 per $1,000 above that, and Class 2 at $25 plus $1.05. A business located outside the city pays double the calculated tax.
No deductions are allowed for cost of goods sold or business expenses. Allowed deductions, like income already reported to another SC or out-of-state jurisdiction, are reviewed and approved by the city.
Renewals for 2026-2027 were due April 30, 2026. Late payments started at 5% on May 1 and rose 5% each month to 50% in February 2027. Under Act 176, new licenses follow the statewide May 1 to April 30 year, and renewals can be paid through the Renewal Center.
