Cape Canaveral requirements

Anyone who does business in Cape Canaveral, or acts as an agent for one, needs a local business tax receipt under Chapter 70 of the City code. Pick up an application at City Hall, 100 Polk Avenue, or email the business tax office.

Fill the application out completely: opening date, number of employees, FEIN or the owner's Social Security number, and the nature of the business. Gaps slow things down. Incorporated businesses attach their Articles of Incorporation.

State-regulated businesses must provide a current copy of their license before a receipt is issued or renewed, and the City counts a Brevard County Certificate of Competency. Every contractor and subcontractor files a current certificate of insurance: at least $300,000 in general liability for general and building contractors, and $100,000 for everyone else.

Receipts follow the October 1 to September 30 fiscal year. A sale means a new application with the bill of sale or deed, and a move means a new application because the tax is tied to the address. Vacation rentals need City and County receipts. The City's annual rental fee is $25 plus $2.50 a unit, with a one-time $30 application fee.
