What Lake Alfred asks for
Lake Alfred taxes each location and each service you offer, and some businesses pay for every state-licensed professional working under their name. A Concept Plan application may be needed depending on the business, or when a space changes use.
Bring final documents only. The City accepts issued state or county papers, not pending applications. That includes your Polk County receipt, any DBPR license and your Sunbiz records. Exempt businesses still have to apply.
Every business is inspected. A $35 first-time inspection fee is paid before inspections are scheduled, and the Building Inspector needs at least five business days to coordinate. The Fire Inspector visits before you open. Home occupations file a separate Home Occupation Application.
The procedures form says to allow at least five business days for processing, while the City's web page says issued receipts are mailed within three weeks. Receipts expire September 30 and renew at City Hall, 120 E Pomelo Street.
Before you choose a location, talk with Community Development. The business has to be allowed in that zoning district, and the department issues a zoning verification letter once your application is in. The tax and the inspection fee are paid by cash or check to the City of Lake Alfred.
