How Auburndale handles it
Auburndale requires a local business tax receipt from anyone with a permanent business location or branch office in the city. Construction Services issues every one of them. The same office registers licensed contractors, issues building permits, reviews construction plans and inspects buildings under construction.
Short-term work counts too. Anyone doing business in the city for a temporary period needs a temporary receipt, which has its own application.
Plan for inspections before opening. The City's utility application says a business property must be inspected and approved by both a Building Official and a Fire Inspector before the receipt is issued, and a business needs the receipt to start utility service.
Applications, contractor registration forms, permits and utility setup all live on the City's GovBuilt portal. Community Development handles zoning and reviews site plans, so check your location with them before signing a lease. Polk County's receipt is separate.
Unsure whether a job needs a building permit? Construction Services asks you to call 863-965-5530 before you start. That's the same number for local business tax questions, and the City's tax rules are published in its code of ordinances.
