Running a trade in Lake Mary
Lake Mary is one of the Seminole County cities where you get two receipts: the City's first, then the County's from the Tax Collector, whose office is at 845 Primera Blvd in Lake Mary. One-person and home-based businesses are included.
The county fee is $25 for non-regulated businesses and $45 for regulated ones. Sanford, Casselberry and Winter Springs also require both receipts, while Altamonte Springs, Longwood and Oviedo handle both in one stop.
Commercial locations need Community Development approval, and new commercial uses may owe water and sewer impact fees. Ask about them before signing a lease.
City receipts expire September 30, and renewal notices are mailed in August. Door-to-door solicitation is allowed only 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
For trades that need a state license, the City's guide points auto repair shops and moving companies to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and contractors to DBPR. Have those numbers ready before you apply, because the City and County each ask what regulated work you do, and regulated businesses pay the higher county fee.
