Horry County, South Carolina

Conway websites for Horry County service pros

Conway lets home businesses use only one room, or 10% of the house, and no customers can visit.

Strict home business rules

Conway is the Horry County seat, and anyone doing business in city limits pays an annual fee and holds a license; new businesses need it before opening. That covers resident businesses in the city and nonresidents who come in to work. Applications may need approval from several city departments, depending on the classification.

Residents pay on 100% of the gross income at their location; nonresidents pay on gross income earned in Conway. The Business License Office is in the Planning & Development and Construction Services Building, 196 Laurel Street, open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., (843) 488-7631.

Home-based businesses file a Home-Based License Agreement with the application and follow strict rules: no retail sales, no visible sign the home is a business, and no customers served there. Only one room or 10% of the home may be used. Stock and equipment stay in a work vehicle, and no tractor trailers are allowed.

The license year runs May 1 to April 30. Renewal notices go out in March, fees are due on or before April 30, and a late penalty is added each month after. Under Act 176, renewals can also be paid through the state's Local Business License Renewal Center.
