Port Royal websites for Beaufort County trades

Port Royal requires a license from both the rental owner and the property manager when a home is professionally managed.

Rentals and contractors

Port Royal sits on Port Royal Island in Beaufort County, and every business working within town jurisdiction needs a current license: contractors on town projects, online sellers, third-party businesses and home-based businesses alike. Questions go to 843-986-2209.

Rentals count. Any apartment, house, condo, townhouse or commercial space rented long-term or short-term needs a license, and when a management company runs it, the owner and the manager each hold a separate one. Short-term rentals also send accommodations taxes to Town Hall every month.

Out-of-town painters, power washers and renovation crews still need a Port Royal license to work on property in town. Commercial projects require a General Contractor or Mechanical Contractor license, and residential specialty work such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, drywall or solar requires a valid SC LLR license first. One exception: a specialty sub applying for a per-project license under a licensed builder doesn't need its own LLR license.

The town's portal handles payments, renewals and accommodation and hospitality fees, and you can also pay at Town Hall, 700 Paris Avenue, or by mail to PO Drawer 9. Renewals are due every April 30. For 2026-2027, Class 1 started at $55 for the first $2,000 plus $1.30 per $1,000, and late payments added 5% from May 1.
