Running a trade in DeLand
DeLand is the Volusia County seat, but Volusia repealed its countywide business tax receipt effective January 1, 2024. A DeLand business now needs only the City's receipt, which is handled through the City's online services portal.
The City went paperless in February 2021. Applications, renewals and payments run through the portal, and the fee is set by the business description you choose, so describe your work accurately when you apply.
Renewal notices are emailed in July, so keep the email address on your account current. Each April the City also emails a request for an annual Declaration, where you report changes during the year such as a new contact, a new email address or a different number of employees.
State licensing is separate from the City receipt. Contractors are licensed through DBPR, and auto repair shops, pest control operators and intrastate movers through FDACS. Keep those numbers handy, and check the City's portal FAQ for what to upload with your application.
