Ocoee licensing basics

Ocoee's Building Division handles business tax receipts. You print the application, sign it in front of a notary and bring the original to City Hall; staff can notarize it there if needed. Renters running a home business need a notarized letter of approval from the owner.

Home-based receipts are usually processed within 2 business days. Commercial locations wait for Building, Fire and Utilities inspections, typically about 5 business days.

Receipts expire September 30, and the City mails renewal bills no later than 60 days before that, though staying current is the owner's job. Late renewals pay a 10% penalty in October and 5% more each month after, capped at 25%. Some receipts also need current state licenses before renewal.

For permits, Ocoee uses one application for every type, from roofing and fences to electrical and tree removal, and electronic plans must be PDFs that meet Florida's digital signature rules. Submissions go through the City's e-permitting portal.
