What Rockledge expects

In Rockledge, business tax receipts come from the Building Department, for storefronts and home occupations alike. Door-to-door solicitors and canvassers fall under the business tax rules too.

The City is moving everything to SmartGOV. Once it goes live, paper applications won't be accepted. Until then you can email the planning office for an application or pick one up at City Hall, 1600 Huntington Lane. A Brevard County receipt follows the City's.

The home business affidavit is strict. Nothing about the work can be seen, heard or smelled from outside. Supplies stay inside the living area, not the garage or yard, and no sign may be visible.

The business can use no more than 25% of the first floor, and it can't operate out of a shed or other accessory building. Crews that keep trailers, ladders or chemical drums at home should look for commercial space.

The Building Department also works to make sure the contractors homeowners hire are licensed and carry the right insurance. Displaying your license and coverage upfront on your website is what Rockledge customers expect.
