How St. Cloud licenses businesses
St. Cloud pairs every Business Tax Receipt with a Certificate of Use, the City's approval to occupy a building. Even businesses exempt from the tax under state law still need the Certificate of Use and pay its fee.
The City sorts businesses into home, mobile and commercial occupations. A mobile occupation uses the home as an office only, with the work done elsewhere. Commercial spaces get a New Business Inspection, and the Fire Marshal signs off before the certificates are emailed.
Businesses in the City also need an Osceola County receipt. Receipts, certificates and construction service registrations all expire September 30, and the City mails courtesy notices in July.
Property owners who rent out homes or units in the city need a Landlord Business Tax Receipt, assessed per owner. Changes in name, address or ownership go to Community Development, and a new owner brings a notarized bill of sale.
