Easley's new business license ordinance took effect January 1, 2026, and general contractors must license every sub.

A new ordinance for 2026

Easley is mainly in Pickens County, with parts reaching into Anderson County. Ordinance 2025-08, ratified September 8, 2025, took effect January 1, 2026, and anyone doing business in city limits pays an annual fee for a license. City Hall is at 205 North First Street, (864) 855-7900.

New businesses go in three steps: zoning approval from Planning & Development, a business license inspection by Building & Codes, then the application to the Business License/Finance Department. Businesses inside the city report all revenue, wherever it was earned, with exemptions only when you show proof.

Contractors based outside the city license on Easley revenue only, either per job or with an annual license; a per-job license covers that job until it's done. General contractors file a subcontractor list, and each sub needs its own license based on its contract amount before work begins, or permits may be held.

Renewals are due to City Hall with full payment by April 30, and an online renewal center is available. A 5% late fee is added each month starting May 1. For 2026-2027, Class 1 started at $35 for the first $2,000. Working without a license can bring fines up to $500 per infraction per day.
