DeKalb County, Georgia

Chamblee websites for north DeKalb service pros

Chamblee brought licensing back in-house and moved renewals to OpenGov. The old HdL portal no longer takes applications.

Back in-house

Chamblee, a DeKalb County city, requires an occupational tax certificate before any business inside city limits operates. Licensing is handled in-house again; the city no longer uses HdL, so neither new applications nor renewals go through that portal. Questions go to the Business Licensing Division at [email protected].

New businesses start with an approved Zoning Verification, submitted through Planning and Development, plus a Life Safety Certificate for commercial spaces. Then you submit through the licensing portal. Both home-based and commercial applicants file SAVE and E-Verify affidavits, a list of secure documents and an emergency contact form; home businesses add a questionnaire and home occupation regulations form.

Renewals run through OpenGov: create an ID, claim your record with the code emailed to you, and report prior-year gross receipts, employees as of January 1, and any E-Verify or state license number. Upload notarized affidavits. Staff review, email for payment, and then you print the certificate and post it where the public can see it.

The 2026 renewal deadline without penalty was April 15. Short-term rental owners need both a Short-Term Rental Certificate and a tax certificate. New alcohol applications for on-premises consumption are on a six-month pause the city adopted November 18, 2025.
