Assisted living website design & SEO in Michigan

City pages for Michigan adult foster care homes and homes for the aged, starting with the 30 address cities where LARA's statewide file lists the most homes serving older adults, from Grand Rapids, Detroit and Lansing to Midland, Warren and Clio.

How it started

A page for every place, first tested in another industry

We built this structure for All Pro Restroom Trailers, a Florida dealer: a page for each state plus DC and a page for each major city, so a buyer searching anywhere landed on a page about their own area.

289pages live: 234 city pages and 51 state hubs
7quote requests in 8 weeks
6buyer locations: FL, NC, TX, AL, MD, DC

The best-known result: the Maryland Jockey Club found All Pro on its Maryland page and requested a formal $32,499 quote, and Mallory Safety / OMNIA Partners reached out about corporate purchasing.

Figures from our All Pro Restroom Trailers project (allprorestroomtrailers.com). Inquiries were quote requests, not closed sales.

People choosing care in Michigan search the same way, by city, by township and by mile road, so the Michigan pages start where the state file is busiest.

Michigan specifics

What a Michigan care home should make clear

LARA's statewide file lists 4,479 facilities with a combined listed capacity of 91,751: 3,894 adult foster care homes and 585 homes for the aged (including those listed as exempt). 2,649 are licensed to serve the aged or are homes for the aged. Name your license type

Michigan does not license "assisted living" as such. Say whether you are an adult foster care family home, small group home, large group home or congregate facility, or a home for the aged, on every page.

Small homes lead

Adult foster care homes outnumber homes for the aged by more than six to one statewide. If you serve six or twelve people, say so and show what a house setting is like.

MI Choice, accurately

The waiver pays for services in a licensed AFC home or home for the aged only through a waiver agency contract, and it does not cover room and board. Mention it only if you hold that contract.

Shared town names

Troy, Jackson, Portage, Midland, Warren, Holland and Wyoming all share names with places in other states. Use "MI" on your page and profile.

Licensing sources: MCL 400.703 (Adult Foster Care Facility Licensing Act definitions: family, small group, large group and congregate homes; "aged" means 60 or older); MCL 333.20106 (Public Health Code definition of a home for the aged); LARA, Adult Foster Care (the state does not license assisted or independent living facilities); LARA, State Licensing of Homes for the Aged (BCHS licenses HFAs; MCL 333.21311a exemption); Michigan Medicaid Provider Manual, MI Choice Waiver chapter (community living supports in AFC and HFA settings do not include room and board); MI Choice Participant Handbook (20 waiver agencies; AFC and HFA settings). Michigan city pages

Website design by city, busiest markets first

Cities are ranked by how many homes in LARA's file serve older adults at that address city (count in parentheses), with ties broken by listed capacity, then grouped by region. Township addresses such as Clinton Township and West Bloomfield are counted on their own. The file includes homes that serve adults with disabilities as well as older adults; the count shown is the senior-serving share.

Common questions

What Michigan owners ask us

Why build a page for every Michigan city?

People search by town: "adult foster care Livonia" or "memory care Grand Rapids," not "assisted living Michigan." A page for each place you serve gives Google an exact match. That structure brought our All Pro client quote requests from six states.

Who regulates assisted living in Michigan?

The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), Bureau of Community and Health Systems. Michigan does not license "assisted living" or "independent living" by those names; a home that provides supervised personal care holds an adult foster care (AFC) license or a home for the aged (HFA) license depending on the care it gives.

What is an adult foster care home?

Under the Adult Foster Care Facility Licensing Act, MCL 400.703, a home that provides foster care to adults who are aged, mentally ill, developmentally disabled or physically disabled and need ongoing supervision but not continuous nursing care. Family homes serve 3 to 6 adults with the licensee living in the home; small group homes serve up to 12; large group homes serve 13 to 20; congregate facilities serve more than 20.

What is a home for the aged?

Under the Public Health Code, MCL 333.20106, a supervised personal care facility that provides room, board and supervised personal care to 21 or more unrelated, nontransient people 55 or older (or 20 or fewer when run as part of a licensed nursing home). LARA lists some homes for the aged as exempt from licensure under MCL 333.21311a.

Can we say we accept MI Choice?

Only if a MI Choice waiver agency has contracted with your home. The waiver can pay for services in a licensed AFC home or home for the aged for people who meet the nursing facility level of care, but the Medicaid Provider Manual says those supports do not include the costs of room and board. We never claim a contract you do not have.
