Assisted living website design & SEO in Virginia

City pages for Virginia assisted living facilities licensed by the Department of Social Services, starting with the 30 address cities where the VDSS search lists the most of them, from Richmond, Mechanicsville and Virginia Beach to Hampton, Norfolk and Springfield.

How it started

A page for every place, first tested in another industry

We built this structure for All Pro Restroom Trailers, a Florida dealer: a page for each state plus DC and a page for each major city, so a buyer searching anywhere landed on a page about their own area.

289pages live: 234 city pages and 51 state hubs
7quote requests in 8 weeks
6buyer locations: FL, NC, TX, AL, MD, DC

The best-known result: the Maryland Jockey Club found All Pro on its Maryland page and requested a formal $32,499 quote, and Mallory Safety / OMNIA Partners reached out about corporate purchasing.

Figures from our All Pro Restroom Trailers project (allprorestroomtrailers.com). Inquiries were quote requests, not closed sales.

People choosing care in Virginia search the same way, by neighborhood, by county and by the interstate they drive, so the Virginia pages start where the state list is busiest.

Virginia specifics

What a Virginia facility should make clear

The VDSS Assisted Living Facility Search lists 575 licensed assisted living facilities statewide. Richmond, Mechanicsville, Virginia Beach, McLean and Roanoke account for 134 of them, and many of the rest sit at addresses that name a city but lie in the county around it. Source: Virginia Department of Social Services, Division of Licensing Programs, Assisted Living Facility Search (blank search, all 575 licensed facilities, counted by address city), read Nov 1, 2026

Name your license

Virginia assisted living facilities are licensed by the Department of Social Services under Code of Virginia § 63.2-100, for four or more adults with 24-hour supervision. Say so on every page, and say that you are not a nursing home, which the Department of Health licenses.

City or county?

A Richmond, Alexandria, Fairfax or Fredericksburg address can be the independent city or a neighboring county with its own department of social services. Name the jurisdiction next to the address.

Auxiliary Grant, accurately

The Auxiliary Grant pays room and board at qualified facilities for eligible low-income residents, and DARS says not every facility accepts it. Say plainly whether you do; never imply Medicaid pays for assisted living room and board.

Shared town names

Alexandria, Arlington, Springfield, Vienna, Winchester, Petersburg, Leesburg, Hampton, Norfolk and Abingdon all share names with places elsewhere. Use "VA" on your page and profile.

Licensing sources: Code of Virginia § 63.2-100 (definition of assisted living facility); VDSS, Assisted Living Facilities (ALF) (Division of Licensing Programs; nursing homes regulated by VDH); VDSS, Assisted Living Facility Search; DARS, Auxiliary Grant (eligibility, what it covers, not all facilities accept it). Virginia city pages

Website design by city, busiest markets first

Cities are ranked by the number of VDSS-licensed assisted living facilities with that address city in the search (count in parentheses), ties by name, then grouped by region. The search results show no county, so an address city such as Richmond or Fredericksburg includes facilities in the surrounding counties. No capacity figures are used.

Common questions

What Virginia owners ask us

Why build a page for every Virginia city?

People search by place: "assisted living McLean" or "memory care Roanoke," not "assisted living Virginia." A page for each place you serve gives Google an exact match. That structure brought our All Pro client quote requests from six states.

Who regulates assisted living in Virginia?

The Virginia Department of Social Services, through its Division of Licensing Programs, licenses and inspects assisted living facilities. Nursing homes are licensed separately by the Virginia Department of Health.

What is an assisted living facility in Virginia?

Under Code of Virginia § 63.2-100, any congregate residential setting that provides or coordinates personal and health care services, 24-hour supervision and assistance, scheduled and unscheduled, for the maintenance or care of four or more adults who are aged or infirm or who have disabilities and who are cared for in a primarily residential setting.

What is the Auxiliary Grant?

DARS describes it as a monetary supplement for low-income Virginians: SSI recipients and certain adults who are 65 or older, blind or disabled, who are assessed at a specific level of care and live in a qualified assisted living facility, adult foster home or supportive housing that accepts it. It pays for room and board at a qualified facility, the application goes to the local department of social services, and not every facility accepts it.

Can we say we accept Medicaid?

Only if it is true for your facility and in the words of the program. For assisted living room and board the state program is the Auxiliary Grant, and DARS says to contact each facility to confirm it accepts the grant; a page that claims more than you offer is a problem for you, not for us.
